Lake Travis Middle School
The $40.8 million project to build Lake Travis Middle School included site design, civil engineering, land surveying, permitting and construction phase services. The school is designed to accommodate approximately 1,200 students with associated drives, parking lots, a football field with a running track, a practice field, an outdoor basketball court, four tennis courts, and associated infrastructure and water quality measures.
The site is located about half a mile north of the intersection of Bee Creek Road and Highway 71. It is over 32 acres.
Design challenges included laying out the site to accommodate all the needed facilities within the limited space and steep topography, and providing vehicular and ADA-compliant pedestrian access as required. Due to its location adjacent to Bee Creek, additional environmental protection measures were included in the design in order to provide enhanced protection of Bee Creek during construction. Water service was not readily available to the site. Cunningham-Allen assisted the Client with the application for water service from a local provider and designed approximately 1,800 linear feet of off-site water line to provide domestic and fire protection water to the project. Permitting included submitting site development permit applications to the City of Lakeway, Travis County, and the Travis County Fire Marshal.
